Summer Internship Programme
Our award winning 11 week summer intern programme is a unique and exciting opportunity for you to work in an international law firm for the summer months gaining invaluable knowledge and practical experience. The 11 week structure – the longest offered by a legal firm in Ireland, allows you to become embedded into the firm, immerse yourself in our culture and build relationships. Our interns take advantage of greater exposure to transactions and are delegated relevant and interesting high value work by partners and associates. By the end of the 11 week programme you will have received a full insight into the life as a trainee in an international law firm.

Department allocaton
As a summer intern you will be assigned to a team in one of our three main departments; Commercial, Property or Litigation, or one of our specialist areas which consist of; Employment, Funds, Tax, Intellectual Property, Technology and Data protection, Pensions, Construction & Projects or Banking. Reporting directly to the partner of that team, your workload will be varied and interesting with the responsibility equal to that of a trainee.
Feedback
We are aware that feedback will be important for you throughout your internship. While we encourage on the job feedback, each of our interns are invited to a mid-programme feedback session with their partner and a member of HR. The meetings are an open forum that provide interns with an opportunity to analyse their own performance, discuss their progress, identify strengths and development areas and distinguish any key areas of interest.
Making Improvements – your feedback is important to us in making improvements to the programme each year… who better to ask for feedback than those completing the programme. Each year we run an intern group session at the end of the programme and have an interactive and open discussion on what worked and maybe what didn’t work so well.
Your buddy
Each intern is allocated a buddy, usually a trainee solicitor, on their first day. Your buddy will help settle first day nerves and will offer support and guidance throughout the programme and be the ‘go to’ person in terms of seeking advice/answering any questions.
Supporting your Development
At Eversheds Sutherland we have designed our comprehensive 11 week summer internship programme to ensure that you not only have an opportunity to gain an insight into the day to day practices of an international law firm, but also have an opportunity to develop relationships, broaden your network and learn new skills. We support this programme though the following dedicated learning and development resources:
- Structured training modules – as well as significant on the job training, our interns attend structured, classroom based training modules. These modules cover topics such as writing a research memo, communication skills, presentation skills and much more
- Professional Support Lawyer (PSLs) – our PSLs provide support and practical working knowledge to our interns. They deliver technical training to our interns on areas such as changes to law, practice and precedents
- Knowledge Centre – our research service maintains our knowledge library, and also assists our interns with research queries and training on our online research tools
Secondment Opportunity
Being an international law firm brings international opportunities. To experience the international aspect of our firm we offer a fully funded secondment opportunity. We recognise that intern secondments are valuable in terms of personal and career development and a great opportunity to gain experience, confidence and skills whilst immersed in a different culture. Our interns have the opportunity to spend two weeks on secondment in one of our UK offices.

Project Competition
Our interns have the opportunity to make an innovative impact on our firm and to showcase their talent and creativity by putting their skills into practice! Our interns work in teams to participate in a team based project (non-legal topic), assigning various team roles, being creative whilst also having some fun doing it!
At the end of the programme each team is invited to present their project to a judging panel.
Traineeship Opportunity
Each summer intern is guaranteed a traineeship interview in October.
