Practice notes
Samantha is an associate in our Construction & Engineering group in Cambridge. Samantha assists on matters ranging from smaller scale to multi-million pound projects and advises on a range of construction issues for a mixture of public, private and education clients. She regularly drafts and negotiates standard form and bespoke construction documentation including building contracts, professional appointments, collateral warranties, novations and performance bonds with a particular focus on the JCT suite.
Her recent experience includes advising a global retail client on the construction aspects of its £111m sale and leaseback of a UK fulfilment centre (as part of a €450m undertaking that spanned other European countries), including taking a leading role on the preparation, negotiation and fulfilment of the sale’s construction deliverables; its milestone first UK land acquisition, valuing £4.5m, and negotiated a corresponding building contract and suite of consultant appointments alongside this; and the building of a 1.5m sq. ft industrial logistics fulfilment centre with a gross development value of circa £120m, which involved a particularly complex balancing of landlord, tenant and funder interests. Acting for a private equity company in relation to the multi-million pound developments of luxury retirement villages, including the £40m acquisition of a joint partnership of two joint ventures for the provision of high end senior living care facilities; advising an asset management company in relation to the extensions and refurbishments of their client's extensive portfolio of prime London property (including managing, co-ordinating and negotiating the large volume of appointments and warranties across the sites); acting for a Higher Education client in its defence and counterclaim relating to damages and disruption incurred on the refurbishment of an Engineering and Physical Sciences building.
