Tatenda is an Associate in our Intellectual property department in the Melrose Arch, Johannesburg office. He is admitted as an attorney in South Africa (2017), Lesotho (2016) and Zimbabwe (2015).
Tatenda is experienced in intellectual property rights acquisition, maintenance and exploitation. His focus areas are Trade Mark clearance, Trade Mark filing and prosecution, and intellectual property licensing and securitisation.
Tatenda is qualified to directly represent persons in all matters before the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO).
Tatenda also has expertise in information and communications technology matters, ranging from eCommerce to data protection.
Tatenda’s past work has included:
- Regular Trade Mark due diligence, clearance and prosecution for a large South African generic pharmaceutical manufacturer;
- Advising a leading South African cryptocurrency exchange on its regulatory environment, including its cryptocurrency lottery and token listing process;
- Assisting a United States bitcoin payment service provider in acquiring trade mark protection in South Africa;
- Drafting various plant breeder’s rights commercialisation agreements for an international genetics company with interests in South Africa;
- Drafting a joint venture agreement for the research and development of a commercial marine lobster trap invention
