Dr. Dietrich Wagner works as a Counsel in the areas of banking & finance as well as corporate law at Eversheds Sutherland in Hamburg. He advises issuing houses with respect to the development and implementation of various capital investment products, on distribution matters as well as in the context of day-to-day investment management. In addition, he regularly provides legal advice to banks and financial service providers regarding regulatory matters, in particular the German Banking Act (Kreditwesengesetz, KWG) and the German Securities Trading Act (Wertpapierhandelsgesetz, WpHG).His professional focus lies in the conception of closed-end and open-end alternative investment funds (AIFs) within the meaning of the German Investment Code (Kapitalanlagegesetzbuch, KAGB) and investments within the meaning of the German Investment Products Act (Vermögensanlagengesetz, VermAnlG). The capital investment products of his national and international clients consist of asset classes of all kind, mainly, however, of investments in real assets within and outside of Germany in the real estate (including agriculture and forestry) and renewable energy sectors.
In the past years, Dietrich in particular dealt with regulation matters in connection with the EU Directive regarding AIFMs (alternative investment fund managers) and its implementation by way of the KAGB. He regularly lectures on these topics and publishes specialist articles.
Dietrich studied law at Georg-August University in Göttingen and did his legal traineeship at Hamburg higher regional court, with stages abroad in Granada (Spain) and Cape Town (South Africa). Before he joined, he led a team of lawyers in the area of funds in a law firm associated with audit services. Prior to this, he worked at a major international law firm in the areas of insolvency and corporate law.
